This water-driven kinetic steel sculpture sits in a shallow pool as the focus for the BC Hydro plaza at 333 Dunsmuir Street in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Incoming water causes the upper unit to tip and spill water into the lower unit. It then rights itself as its centre of gravity is restored and repeats the cycle every three minutes. The lower unit oscillates as a non-linear function of the upper unit, rain, and wind.

In this image the lower unit has just completed the discharge cycle and is returning to equilibrium to reload while the upper unit has begun to reload and is just beginning to tip.
